Hello there.
Do you guys accommodate woodworkers? If so, what do you have as far as woodworking hand and power tools go?
Thanks!
We are in the process of building our workshop. Currently, our tools are limited but we plan to have many wood working power tools.
To update Eric’s reply, we’ve vastly expanded our woodworking arsenal! We now have drill presses, a table saw, a circular saw, power drills, hand saws, a Saw-Max, a glorious arsenal of clamps, and much more.
Hello,
What kinds of machining equipment, if any, do you have at Makerbar? I’m looking for a programmable CNC mill and lathe for a machining project. Do you have either of these, or know someplace that would?
Thanks!
We have power drills, jig saws, and circular saws. I’ll see if anyone on our mailing list knows about CNC milling machines and lathes at nearby hackerspaces.
Is it possible stop by to ask for help with a technical issue? If so what is the best day?
Every Wednesday and Friday are nights open to the public. Stop by and talk to one of our members.
Hey guys (and gals)!
My name is Erin and I am writing from Leftfield Pictures. We’re a television production company in Manhattan who brought you History’s #1 smash hit “Pawn Stars,” “American Restoration” and Science Channel’s “Oddities.” I wanted to reach out to MakerBar members with a television opportunity.
We are currently casting for a new television docu-series that centers around a group of unique, geeky, quirky individuals. From scientific discoveries, to comic-con, to science-themed trivia nights, we want to follow these characters through their world.
If you and your group of friends embrace a “geek chic” lifestyle, if you consider yourselves the real “Big Bang Theory,” and you’re ready to share your passion, we would love to speak with you! We’re looking for tinkerers, fabricators, builders, inventors, innovators, etc. between the ages of 25-40.
I came across your blog during my initial outreach and thought you might be able to connect me with Hoboken people interested in this project. Please do let me know if you’re interested or might be able to spread the word to people who might be. For more information, and to speak with a Casting Associate, please e-mail me at this address or at [email protected]. I’m also always down for a phone conversation so feel free to call me at 212-564-2607 ext 2332.
Thanks!
P.S. you can also DM me on Twitter –> @brainiacswanted
I’m a science teacher at Hoboken Charter High School and am looking for guest guides to collaborate with to introduce students into this creative hackspace on a one-shot or longer-term (paid?) basis. It would be on our site at 4th and Garden. I’m most concerned with awakening students to their self-creation and expression of potential futures. Contact me to discuss further.
This is a very inspirational mission that aligns well with ours. An amazing change comes over both old and young people when they enter the space – they realize that even the most extraordinary idea is a set of simple and learnable steps, and they can’t wait to get started.
Click “Contact Us” above, follow the link to our mailing list, and get in touch. We’re looking forward to hearing more.
My son Rhett visited the MakerBar tonight with a friend and he was so absolutely excited. Rhett is 13 and will soon become a Raspberry Pi owner. We will be there Friday night; he wants to show me this great Space!
That’s great Dottie !! Rhett is a welcome addition to our community… thanks for bringing him !
I know next to nothing about this kind of thing. I have very limited XP with wood working.
Are there classes/learning opportunities?
Do you guys have an oscilloscope at your facility, and someone that knows how to use it? I was going to swing by and check the place out tonight at your open craft night and bring along a project that I am working on that has me completely befuddled.
Yep, we have a dual-channel CRO and I’m reasonably good with it. Come down and let’s take a poke.
Great! I will be there tonight. I have wanted to check the place out for a few months so now I have a great excuse
